Pear Apple Sauce
If you like apple sauce, you'll
like this even better! Make this delicious recipe for a healthy
snack.
(Makes 8 cups)
Ingredients:
6 pears ( Comice, Anjou, or
Bartlett)
4 apples (Granny Smith, McIntosh, Fuji, Golden delicious)
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 cup apple juice
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
Directions:
- Core, peel and cut the pears and apples
into large chunks.
- Put all the prepared fruit into a large,
heavy pot, add the lemon juice and mix well to prevent discoloration.
- Add the remaining ingredients and bring
to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, partially covered, for
about 15 minutes or until the fruit is tender.
- Uncover the pot, stir and cook for 5
minutes more.
- Coarsely mash the apples with the
cooking juices. Cool to room temperature, then refrigerate, covered,
until ready to use, up to 5 days.
