Dirt Pudding

Try serving this fun dessert in a new flowerpot or plastic cup and decorate with worms and spiders!
(Serves 8)

Ingredients:
Pudding:
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup cocoa powder
4 cups 1% or 2% cold milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 (16 oz. size) package Oreo cookies – not double filled

8 large plastic cups or 8 new, medium-size plastic or clay flowerpots
Gummy worms and plastic spiders to decorate
Directions:
  1. Prepare pudding:  In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch and cocoa powder.
  2. Slowly add the milk, whisking to combine.
  3. Over medium heat, bring mixture to a boil, continuously whisking gently. Reduce heat to low and cook for
4 minutes while continuing to whisk. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour the mixture through a sieve
and into a large bowl. Cover the surface of the pudding with plastic wrap. Place in the refrigerator to chill completely before serving, approximately 1 hour.
  4. Assemble pots: Place Oreo cookies in a large zip lock bag.  This may need to be done in several batches.  Seal the bags carefully and crush into crumbs with a rolling pin or heavy pan.
  5. If using flowerpots, line bottoms with foil or plastic wrap to keep crumbs from falling through the holes.
  6.  Put 1 inch of crumbs in bottom of each pot.
  7.  Alternate layers of cookies and pudding ending with a thick layer of cookie crumbs.
  8. Decorate by sticking gummy worms and spiders into top layer of crumbs.
  9.  Refrigerate if not serving immediately.
